Roadmap

Introduction

Mitsubishi Fuso is Asia's premier commercial vehicle company, with a number 1 market shares in Japan, Indonesia and other Asian markets. Built on over 70 years of rich heritage and a track record of superior customer focus, the company employs 16,000 people worldwide and reported sales revenues of Euro 6 bn in fiscal year 2002/2003. Mitsubishi Fuso is committed to expand its leadership with the benefit of the company's alliance with DaimlerChrysler established in 2003. As of March 10, 2005, our main shareholders are Daimler (85%) and various Mitsubishi group companies (15%).

"New Fuso" roadmap taking the next steps, addressing the challenges of tomorrow

As soon as Mitsubishi Fuso was established as an independent company, the new management team established a process to chart the way forward. The main objectives of their strategy were to build on the successful position of Fuso and benefit from the opportunities Daimler as the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer presents.
In five key areas of activity, ranging across all business functions and sectors of the company, Mitsubishi Fuso has established a strategic plan that will focus and boost investment, increase exports and streamline the cost structure.

Key objectives

Overall, the roadmap will achieve three key objectives:
  • Mitsubishi Fuso will increase investment in people, processes, products and facilities to 20 bn Yen between 2003 and 2005, up 50% compared to the previous period.

  • As profitable growth is one of the main objectives, the company targets to increase exports by 20% within the next five years.

  • Also, the alliance enables Mitsubishi Fuso to adopt an aggressive cost reduction program, with material costs to be reduced by 20% by 2005.

One of the first tangible results will be achieved through common and standardized components as well as more efficient purchasing practice. Mitsubishi Fuso engineers have established a landscape with Daimler to share the best available products, thus reduce costs, time to market and also speed up technology.
Another focus is engine development where both Mitsubishi Fuso and Daimler will benefit from modular concepts. Furthermore, production will be streamlined resulting in more efficient processes and better work share. A management development program was established with the goal to internationalize executives and implement a global mindset.
