PRESS RELEASE

Mitsubishi Fuso CANTER GUTS Gasoline Light Truck
First in Class To Clear New Long-term Emissions Regulations &
To Receive J-ULEV Certification

February 19 , 2004

Tokyo, 19 February 2004-Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation announced today that it is to add a new ultra-clean gasoline model to the CANTER GUTS 1.5-ton payload light truck series. The new model becomes the first in its class to clear the Japan 2005 Emission Regulations (“New Long-term Emission Regulations”) and to be certified J-ULEV(superscript: 1) under the 2005 Low Emission Vehicle Certification System introduced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport in 2003. The new CANTER GUTS goes on sale at Mitsubishi Fuso dealerships throughout Japan on February 19.

Through the 1990’s and the beginning of the new millennium the CANTER GUTS series doubled its market share in Japan to nearly 30%. Demand for gasoline CANTER GUTS, which had remained almost flat during this period, increased sharply in fiscal 2002 and in 2003 grew to twice the 2001 level. This growth is principally attributable to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government bringing into force an ordinance prohibiting the operation within the metropolitan area of diesel vehicles that fail to meet the prescribed emission standards. Mitsubishi Fuso has responded to the needs of this growth market by phasing in models powered by next-generation clean-diesel engines and now by becoming the first manufacturer to introduce a gasoline model that meets the New Long-term Emission Regulations.

(superscript: 1)Emission levels 50% below Japan 2005 Emission Regulation requirements

New Long-term Emissions Regulations compliant

Product features

1. 2005 Emission Regulations Compliant
The Japan 2005 Emission Regulations (New Long-term Emission Regulations) succeed the 2001 "New Short-term Emission Regulations". Requiring 50% reductions in NOx and HC’s over the earlier regulations, they are among the most stringent anywhere.

The Mitsubishi Fuso gasoline CANTER GUTS is the first model in its class to comply with the New Long-term Emission requirements.

2. J-ULEV certification, 8-Tokenshi LEV & LEV-6 designation
Returning emission levels 50% lower than required under the 2005 Emission Regulations, the new Mitsubishi Fuso CANTER GUTS gasoline truck is the first model in its class to gain J-ULEV certification under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport’s J-ULEV System. The new model has also received low-emission vehicle designation under the 8-Toshiken(superscript: 2) and LEV-6(superscript: 3) systems.

(superscript: 2)Under the Eight Metropolitan Prefectural / Municipal Authorities Low-Emission Vehicle Certification System (covering the prefectures of Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa and the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Kawasaki, Chiba and Saitama);

(superscript: 3)The Six Prefectural / Municipal Authorities Low-Emission Vehicle Certification System (covering the prefectures of Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo and the cities of Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe)

3. Other features
MPI(superscript: 4) electronic fuel injection
CANTER GUTS is powered by the 4G63 2.0-liter engine with electronically controlled multi-point fuel injection that returns low fuel consumption and produces high output and torque. Optimization of the intake and exhaust system components for MPI fuel injection has contributed to the vehicle’s clean emissions performance.

(superscript: 4)Multi Point Injection

In-dash shifter 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions
To cater to a wider range of customers, CANTER GUTS is offered with either a 5-speed manual or ELC 4-speed automatic transmissions both using an in-dash shifter.

Allowing unrestricted movement from side to side of the cab, the in-dash shifter has proved very popular since its introduction in the New CANTER/CANTER GUTS series that came to market in 2002, making it the first cab-over truck anywhere to use an in-dash shifter.

Benefits stemming from emissions compliance
Because it complyies with the New Long-term Emissions Regulations, the CANTER GUTS gasoline model is eligible in certain areas for local government funding and subsidies. It is also eligible for a reduction in Motor Vehicle Acquisition Tax in those regions where owners and operators are required to implement emission reducing measures under the Motor Vehicle NOx and PM Control Law(superscript: 5).

(superscript: 5)The "Law Concerning Special Measures to Reduce the Total Amount of Nitrogen Oxides and Particulate Matter Emitted from Motor Vehicles in Specified Areas” came into force in October 2002 in a total of 196 communities in the Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Osaka and Hyogo Prefectures
