PRESS RELEASE

Mitsubishi Fuso Completes Investigation into Past Quality Issues

February 2 , 2005

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) today announced the completion of its technical investigations into past quality issues. Between October 2004 and January 2005, the company checked about 280,000 quality-related documents dating back to the year 1971. These investigations were unprecedented in scale and involved up to 2,000 persons checking quality-related in-house documentation as well as all available documents at dealers and related companies.

In addition, MFTBC together with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) has reexamined 102 quality items over the last months. These items had already been disclosed to the MLIT and the public in June 2004 and decided upon for closer reexamination by MFTBC and MLIT at that time.

As a result of both investigations, MFTBC announced today that it will implement field actions for 110,000 trucks and busses, most of which had been produced before 1995. This figure is equivalent to 13% of the 849,000 vehicles the company has already recalled in its rigorous clean-up efforts of the past, as announced on October 27, 2004. Subject to final technical verification and based on today’s initial judgement, MFTBC expects no further significant profit impact.

MFTBC President and CEO Wilfried Porth said: “Today’s announcement represents the final step of our rigorous investigation into past quality issues. We are confident that there are no further undisclosed issues of the past. Our new systematic approach towards quality will ensure road safety for all our vehicles now and in the future.”
