•  40 German Students Tour MFTBC Kawasaki Manufacturing Plant
•  Program Part of Takenoko Fund Initiative to Promote Cultural Understanding between
Japan and Germany

Tokyo – DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation (MFTBC) have concluded an educational program for over 40 German students as part of the companies’ participation in the Takenoko Fund initiative. The students, from three separate secondary schools in Germany, received comprehensive tours of MFTBC’s Kawasaki Manufacturing Plant and met with Mitsubishi Fuso manufacturing executives. The events were the latest in a variety of activities conducted under the Takenoko Fund program. Established by the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB) and sponsored by DaimlerChrysler and MFTBC, the Takenoko Fund aims to raise the interest of Japanese and German students about each others’ cultures.

“Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation is very pleased to support the Takenoko Fund and to help foster cultural understanding between Japan and Germany,” said Keisuke Egashira, MFTBC Chairman. “We were delighted to host the German students at our Kawasaki plant and give a view to the workings of a major Japan manufacturer.”

The students visiting the Kawasaki plant came from three schools -- Realschule CamperHoehe in Stade, Voelker-Schule in Osnabrueck and Fechenbach-Berufskolleg in Detmold. Each school group visited during the month of October.

In the future, DaimlerChrysler and MFTBC plan to conduct other activities under the Takenoko program. MFTBC along with DaimlerChrysler first announced their support of the Takenoko Fund in December 2005. The companies committed a total annual contribution of 100,000 Euro (approx. 14,000,000 Yen) from 2005, onward, for three years with the possible continuation beyond 2007.

Take-no-ko actually means “young bamboo sprouts”, which rapidly grow forming a thick and forceful network. Hence the name of this fund symbolizes the rapid intensification, fortification and rejuvenation of the human network between Japan and Germany.
