Mitsubishi Fuso Announces Results of 28th Annual Sketch Contest

December 5, 2006

•  Over 54,000 entries received for 2006 contest
•  Winning entries to be exhibited over New Year holiday period
•  ’28 Years of Creativity and Imagination’

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation (MFTBC) today announced the winning entries from its 28th annual Summer Sketch Contest for pre-school children. Over 54,000 entries from 706 kindergarten and nursery schools were received during this year’s entry period, August 1 to September 29, 2006. After a comprehensive selection process, the winners of the various prizes have been selected.

“MFTBC congratulates the award recipients and all the entrants for this year’s Mitsubishi Fuso Summer Sketch contest,” said Keisuke Egashira, MFTBC Chairman. “For 28 years, we have witnessed great creativity and imagination from the children participating in the contest. We hope this tradition has helped to inspire young people, and contributed to a positive impression about the truck and bus industry.”

In the Mitsubishi Fuso 2006 Summer Sketch Contest, the children were asked to draw a sketch depicting the kind of a truck or bus that they see hard at work around them each day -- or a futuristic vision of the kind of vehicle they would like to ride in, the kind of vehicle that would be “cool” to see on the roads.

After two preliminary screenings, entries went through to the final judging by a panel chaired by Tei Yamamoto, one of Japan’s leading modern artists. The panel selected a total of 88 entries in awarding three Grand Prix, five First Place and 10 Runner-Up prizes as well as 70 Honorable Mentions.

Over the New Year, Mitsubishi Fuso will hold an exhibition of the prize-winning entries at the Gallery Tokyo Eizo in Azabu-Juban to give members of the general public an opportunity to see the children’s work.

On display in the exhibition will be the three Grand Prix, five First Place and 10 Runner-Up entries. Also at the gallery, a large monitor screen will show scenes the final of the judging panel reviewing the work and making their final decisions. Admission is free.
