Mitsubishi Fuso Issues
Environmental and Social Report 2008

Kawasaki – Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) today issued its “Environmental and Social Report 2008” (Japanese version), summarizing domestic environmental and social activities in 2007 and 2008.

As an integral part of Daimler Trucks, the world’s largest truck manufacturer, MFTBC considers environmental preservation as a top priority for its business management. The company’s Environmental and Social Report has been issued every year since 2004 for the purpose of providing information on these efforts.

Featured Topics

In this year’s edition, numerous environmental efforts are featured. Included are the launch of Mitsubishi Fuso’s large, non-step, hybrid route bus “Aero Star Eco Hybrid” in September 2008; scenes of the Aero Star Eco Hybrid in operation as a shuttle bus at the G8 Toyako Summit in July 2008; and efforts on environmental preservation at the bus manufacturing site Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Manufacturing Co., Ltd., in Toyama, Japan.

Environmental Sustainability Plan

The Report also details progress on the company’s mid-term Environmental Sustainability Plan. This is a mid-term report for the environment that MFTBC developed in June 2006. Specific targets are set mainly in four aspects: environmental management, recycling, prevention of global warming and prevention of environmental pollution. Highlights include:


•  MFTBC achieved its 2010 target reduction rate of 20% for CO2 emissions, which was 107,000 tons, a reduction of 44% compared to FY1990.
•  Publication of 2006 results including recycling situation complying with the Automobile Recycling Law. The recycling rate of ASR (Automobile Shredder Residue) was 65.8%, meeting the legal standard (over 30%).
•  Various technologies were developed to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions from 2007 to 2008.

Coordination with Daimler

Furthermore, the MFTBC Environmental and Social Report 2008 covers the company’s cooperation on environmental and social activities together with other members of Daimler Trucks. Examples documented in the report include:


•  Cooperation in development of various environmental and safety technologies.
•  August 2008 opening of the Global Hybrid Center at MFTBC as the center for Daimler Trucks worldwide hybrid development.
•  Environmental audit for MFTBC plants by Daimler.
•  MFTBC participation in Daimler’s Environmental Leadership Award.
•  Cultural exchange between Japan and Germany through student exchange programs and support for artistic and sports activities
