Kawasaki - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced that it will begin sales of its Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck in Hong Kong. The environmentally-friendly hybrid truck will be available for order from February 27, 2010 through Universal Cars Limited (UCL), the Mitsubishi Fuso distributor in Hong Kong. The arrival of the Canter Eco Hybrid in Hong Kong continues an international expansion of Mitsubishi Fuso’s hybrid business which commenced in late 2009 and continues in 2010.

“Mitsubishi Fuso is pleased to bring the low emissions, high fuel efficiency Canter Eco Hybrid to Hong Kong,” said Mr. Kai-Uwe Seidenfuss, MFTBC Vice President of Sales & Service International. “With its environmentally-friendly performance, we believe this vehicle will benefit not only our customers but the public in general, by making a contribution to CO2 reduction and by raising awareness of the possibilities of low emissions commercial vehicles.“

He added, “Hong Kong marks our third international market where we will deliver hybrid trucks. We look forward to continuing this hybrid truck offensive as we offer economically-friendly environmentally and economically friendly hybrid trucks to customers in selected markets worldwide.”

Mitsubishi Fuso Hybrid Product Expansion

In October 2009, MFTBC announced it had received its first orders from outside Japan to deliver 10 units of its Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck to Electricity Supply Board, Ireland’s premiere electricity utility. MFTBC has also just announced on February 16 that it will deliver 25 units of its hybrid trucks to Star Track Express, one of Australia’s leading freight companies. Overall in 2010, MFTBC intends to further expand its hybrid truck sales by increasing sales volume and entering further new markets.

MFTBC has marketed hybrid trucks in its home market Japan since July 2006, when the Canter Eco Hybrid was launched. To date, over 750 Canter Eco Hybrid trucks have been sold in Japan.

The Canter Eco Hybrid is one of the most advanced Japanese light-duty hybrid truck currently available for sale in the world today. It features a parallel hybrid system, delivering up-to-20 percent increase in fuel efficiency over conventionally-powered models, with associated exhaust emissions reduction.
