Kawasaki Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced a significant expansion of the infrastructure for AdBlue® in Japan. AdBlue® (consisting of urea water) is utilized in the BlueTec® emissions reduction system of Mitsubishi Fuso’s lineup of trucks and buses for Japan. MTFBC is adopting the BlueTec® system to improve vehicle environmental and economic performance and to meet 2009 and 2010 Japan new Long-Term Emission Regulations. BlueTec® consists of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) plus an urea selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for treating exhaust. AdBlue® is utilized in the urea SCR system and must occasionally be replenished.

Already, AdBlue® can be purchased at 1,500 locations in Japan including about 1,000 truck stops including Usami, Suzuyo, IKKO, Konan, and others, plus about 500 sales dealers of MFTBC and UD Trucks Corporation. But now, the AdBlue supply infrastructure will be enhanced as follows:

1. At service stations

For increased customer convenience, MFTBC and UD Trucks have jointly discussed with general service stations to cooperate in the expansion of AdBlue® supply setups. As a result, key, major oil companies and trading houses have offered cooperation. Specifically, AdBlue® will be sold at major affiliated service stations of Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.; as well as at selected affiliated service stations of Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. and Suzuyo Shoji Co., Ltd.

Furthermore with cooperation by Zensekiren (Petroleum Association of Japan), service stations in addition to those above will start handling AdBlue® across Japan.

The number of service stations to sell the liquid will be increased in the future. Overall, the supply infrastructure will be set up so that customers can purchase AdBlue® anywhere in Japan -- from Hokkaido to Okinawa -- with assurance.

2. At Mitsubishi Fuso designated service facilities
In addition to the 250 MFTBC dealer locations that have already handled AdBlue®, about 400 MFTBC service facilities nationwide will start providing AdBlue® to supplement the supply setups at service stations.

3. Now packaging in 5-liter container
For better convenience for trucks with a smaller AdBlue® tank, a 5-liter AdBlue® container will be available. MFTBC’s dealers nationwide will sell AdBlue® in the 5-liter container.

4. Internet mail order service
Personal Tano-mail, the Internet mail order service run by Otsuka Corporation, will start handling the 5-liter AdBlue® tank starting in August. This internet mail order system makes it possible for customers to order and purchase the quantity they need, and also for AdBlue® to be delivered to them anywhere across Japan.

5. New site for AdBlue® information
A new site for AdBlue® information is set up on MFTBC’s website to provide updated information about supply setups/infrastructure.

About BlueTec® and AdBlue®

MFTBC first incorporated an urea SCR system in its Super Great heavy-duty truck in 2007. In 2010, the company launched the advanced BlueTec® urea SCR system. So far, it has been installed in Mitsubishi Fuso vehicles including the new Super Great heavy-duty truck, Fighter medium-duty truck, Aero Queen and Aero Ace large tourist buses and Aero Star large route bus. MFTBC also announced today that its next generation light-duty truck powertrain will utilize BlueTec®.

This BlueTec® system realizes both particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) reductions while cutting CO2 production due to fuel economy improvement. As a result, MFTBC’s trucks and buses have achieved high performance in environmental protection, fuel consumption, and overall economy, while meeting stringent emissions regulations.

AdBlue® urea water is indispensable to the BlueTec® system, as it helps to break down nitrogen oxide (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water. AdBlue® is colorless, odorless, harmless to human being, and incombustible. It is used for cosmetics as a moisturizing agent. Special qualification is not required for handling it, and its safety has been proven.
