Mitsubishi Fuso Strongly Increases Sales
In First Half 2010

August 5, 2010

•  Overall Sales Up Almost 40% in First Six Month
•  Driven by Improving International Sales, Up 58.9% in Jan.-June
•  Recovery Underway in First Half of 2010
•  Building Further Momentum Through Continuing Product Offensive

Kawasaki - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced its overall sales (including international markets and Japan) increased 39.9% in the first half of 2010 to 61,569 units (Jan.-June 2009: 44,003 units). This growth was based on improving international sales. For the period January through June 2010, the company sold 50,117 units outside its home market of Japan. This represented a 58.9% improvement year-over-year (Jan.-June 2009: 31,544 units).

“Based on improving global market conditions and our strong presence in emerging markets, Mitsubishi Fuso achieved significant sales increases in the first half of 2010,” said Dr. Albert Kirchmann, MFTBC President and CEO. “While significant challenges remain in the global economy, we clearly see a commercial vehicle sales recovery underway in the first half of 2010. Mitsubishi Fuso plans to build further market momentum in the second half by continuing a product offensive which is bringing over 25 new products or product changes to global markets within 2010.”

Growth in All International Markets

A major factor in MFTBC’s improved sales in the first half of 2010 was a significant sales unit increase in Southeast Asia, the company’s largest export market. But MFTBC achieved growth in all major international sales regions in the first six months of 2010.

In Southeast Asia, sales increased 74.8% to 26,400 units (Jan.-June 2009: 15,104 units). Mitsubishi Fuso is the market leader in Southeast Asia overall and in Indonesia, the region’s largest economy.

In the Middle East, MFTBC’s second largest export market in recent years, sales are now also showing a positive trend. The company’s Middle East sales increased 5.5% to 5,806 units in the first half of 2010 (Jan.-June 2009: 5,502 units).

In Africa, sales increased 37.6% to 3,992 units (Jan.-June 2009: 2,902 units).

In other international markets including Northeast Asia, Europe and Turkey, North America and Latin America, sales also moved strongly off the low levels of 2009, in some cases doubling or tripling year-over-year.

Challenges in Japan Market, But Positive Q2

The company’s home market of Japan continued at a low level in the first half of 2010. MFTBC domestic Japan sales decreased 8.1% in the first half of 2010 to 11,452 units (Jan.– June 2009 = 12,459 units). However, sales developed positively within the second quarter, up 7.7% to 6,554 units (Q2 2009: 6,084 units).
