Latest Environmental Technologies at Eco Products 2010 in Japan

December 8, 2010

•  Mitsubishi Fuso’s New Canter Light-Duty Truck and smart Electric Vehicle on Display
•  Latest Advanced Environmental Technologies from Daimler

Kawasaki - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and Mercedes-Benz Japan Co., Ltd. (MBJ) today announced their joint exhibition at the “Eco Products 2010 - Eco Style Fair,” one of the biggest environmental product shows in Japan. The exhibit runs Thursday, December 9, through Saturday, December 11 at the Tokyo Big Site facility.

The joint display showcases the advanced environmentally-friendly technologies of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), an integral part of the Daimler Trucks Division of Daimler AG, and Mercedes-Benz Japan Co., Ltd. (MBJ), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler AG and the importer of smart cars in Japan.

At the booth, MFTBC will display the new Canter light-duty truck just launched on November 11 with the concept of Environment, Economy, and Safety+α. MBJ will display its smart electric micro-compact vehicle which has been in demonstration tests in Japan since October of this year.

The new Canter is the first full model change of a light-duty truck to meet the world’s most stringent emission regulations JP09 (Japan Post New Long-Term Emission Regulations), achieving extremely clean emissions in all its models with nitrous oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) 30% lower than required. Also, all of the series not only fulfills Japan’s 2015 fuel efficiency standard for heavy-duty vehicles but over-fulfills it in the 2-7% range, achieving its class-topping low fuel consumption.

Prior to its planned launch after 2012, the smart fortwo electric drive is now in demonstration tests since October, a first for a European automotive company in Japan. The tests are collecting and verifying various driving modes especially under unique Japanese weather and road conditions.

Along with displays at the booth, the companies will offer driving experiences of the new Canter and smart fortwo electric drive at the ‘Eco-Car Drive Experience’ corner at the venue.
