Canter in Brief
T720, a cab-over light-duty truck with 2-ton payload capacity was introduced to the market as the first generation ‘Canter’ in March1963. The name ‘Canter’ was chosen for its association with a ‘hard and light trotting horse – a telling reflection of the vehicle’s characteristic traits’. Since then, half a century has passed. The 8th generation of Canter, which was launched in November 2010, is the latest model which represents continuing technological evolution. It has now truly developed into a global truck which is sold in not only Japan, but also in more than150 countries around the world. The ‘Canter Eco Hybrid’ light-duty truck which has achieved top-class fuel efficiency coupled with top-level environmental friendliness represents the combined technological know-how developed through the years. In November last year, the Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck incorporating the world’s first ‘DUONIC®×HYBRID’ technology received the 2013 RJC Car of the Year 2013 Special Award, a historical moment won for the first time for any commercial vehicles manufacturer.
