Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC; headquarters: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO Hartmut Schick), a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia (DTA), has introduced 6 new variants of its medium-duty Fighter truck at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
With this latest wave of Fighter variants, customers in Indonesia will be able to choose from three axle configurations (4x2, 6x2, 6x4), various wheelbases ranging from 5,000 mm to 7,100 mm, and engine outputs of up to 270 hp. A total of 15 variants of the Fighter will now be available in the Indonesian market, where medium-duty trucks have been one of the fastest-growing segments in commercial vehicles within the last several years. By offering a line-up including extended wheelbases, MFTBC is providing an answer to efficiency-focused business owners in a market where construction-related uses have soared due to public investment projects. Rising global commodity prices have also pushed the demand for logistics solutions in mining and agriculture, both of which are major drivers of the Indonesian economy. The 4x2 and 6x2 drivetrain configurations are best suited for operations requiring maneuverability, fuel-efficiency, and payload, while the 6x4 provides better traction and stability for off-road routes and inclement weather.
All Fighter trucks are installed with Runner Telematics, which allows customers to monitor vehicle location, usage and maintenance, as well as job status. These features are easily accessible via laptop, tablet, and mobile phone. The Fighter and its telematics system matches the heightening demand for technological sophistication in trucks, which has been propelled by the increasing professionalization of transportation solution providers in Indonesia.
All Fighter trucks sold in Indonesia, including the latest variants, are shipped as knock-down kits (KD) from the MFTBC plant in Kawasaki, Japan, before they are locally assembled by PT Krama Yudha Ratu Motor in East Jakarta. They are then distributed through PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB), a local joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation. KTB has been integral to the continuation of the FUSO brand’s long history in Indonesia, where it has been the market leader for nearly 50 years. FUSO’s highest-volume product in Indonesia is the light-duty Colt Diesel, which is also exhibited at this year’s GIIAS.
