Mitsubishi Fuso Launches New Generation
Medium-Duty Truck In New Zealand As Sales Rise

Kawasaki – Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), an integral part of Daimler Trucks, has introduced its latest generation medium-duty truck in New Zealand. The new “Fighter” brings further enhancements in interior comfort, ergonomics, efficiency, along with distinctive new styling.  The truck recently was unveiled at press, customer and dealer events in Auckland, New Zealand.

Due to a diverse product line, positive market conditions, an excellent brand image and a strong dealer network, Mitsubishi Fuso has been expanding sales in New Zealand. In calendar year 2007, sales increased 13.1% to 854 units (2006 = 755 units). In the first half of 2008, sales grew 16.3% to 363 units (January-June 2007= 312 units). (Sales figures are Mitsubishi Fuso retail sales).

Product Features

Leading attributes of the new Fighter for New Zealand include:


•  Spacious and quiet interior, with comfort features like driver’s air suspension seat.
•  Ergonomic improvements including entry-and-exit, easy-to-reach controls, increased adjustment range of seats/steering column.
•  More visibility through panoramic windshield.
•  Improved aerodynamics for greater fuel economy.
•  Confident styling with a low-profile fascia and flush side panel surfaces.
•  Safety features including new, impact-absorbing steering wheel.
•  Powerful, 7.5-liter, inline 6-cylinder diesel engine (240PS & 270PS).
•  Model range from 10.4 – 24.0 tonnes (gross vehicle weight).
•  Designed and engineered according to Fuso Product Development (FPD), a comprehensive process based on the global standards of Daimler AG.

The trucks will be built at MFTBC’s Kawasaki, Japan, manufacturing plant, and imported as completely-built-up units into New Zealand.

Overall, Mitsubishi Fuso’s product line for New Zealand includes light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and light buses. The Mitsubishi Fuso distributor in New Zealand is Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand Ltd., based in Porirua.

Latest Fighter Launch

The New Zealand launch of the new Fighter medium-duty truck is the latest in a series of launches in key markets worldwide. The truck has already been unveiled in Mitsubishi Fuso’s export markets U.S., Canada, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.
