MFTBC Chairman Egashira Receives
“Bundesverdienstkreuz” (Order of Merit) from Germany

Kawasaki and Tokyo – Mr. Keisuke Egashira, Chairman of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), today was awarded the “Bundesverdienstkreuz” of the Federal Republic of Germany. The “Bundesverdienstkreuz,” or “Order of Merit,” is Germany’s highest award for services in the public interest. His Excellency, Hans-Joachim Daerr, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, presented the award to Mr. Egashira during a ceremony at the German Embassy in Tokyo.

According to the Embassy, Mr. Egashira is being honored for "his lifetime achievements for fostering Germany-Japan relationships in the world of the arts, music and business.”

Since July 2005, Mr. Egashira has served as Chairman of MFTBC, an integral part of the Daimler Trucks division of Daimler AG of Germany. In his position, he has promoted numerous aspects of business and culture exchange between Japan and Germany. Among other initiatives, he has led MFTBC’s support of the Takenoko Fund, a program administered by the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB) to foster the exchange of high school students between the two countries. The Takenoko Fund is sponsored jointly by MFTBC and Daimler AG with an annual commitment of 100,000 Euro. It is the largest program of its kind.

Prior to joining MFTBC, Mr. Egashira held leadership positions for DaimlerChrysler in Japan, and from 2001 served as chairman of the DaimlerChrysler Foundation. The Foundation actively promoted cultural activities like the Art Scope program to bring together Japanese and German artists.

Previously and on numerous occasions throughout his career, he was involved in aspects Germany-Japan business or cultural exchange. This includes during his tenure as Chairman of the Japan Automobile Importers Association in 2000-2005, and his career in the financial industry with Nomura Securities.

Speaking at the award ceremony at the German Embassy in Tokyo, Mr. Andreas Renschler, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of the Daimler Trucks Division, said: “Daimler AG is proud of the achievements of Keisuke Egashira.
