Günther H. Oettinger, Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg,
Visits Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation

Kawasaki – Mr. Günther H. Oettinger, Prime Minister of the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, today visited the Kawasaki, Japan operations of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC). Mr. Oettinger, in Japan to promote business and cultural exchange, was joined by His Excellency, Mr. Hans-Joachim Daerr, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Japan, and an accompanying political and business delegation.

Born in Stuttgart, Mr. Oettinger, has been the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg since April 21, 2005. Baden-Württemberg is the third largest of the 16 German federal states,
both in terms of its surface area of 35,752 square kilometers, and also with its 10.7 million inhabitants.

His Excellency, Mr. Hans-Joachim Daerr, has served as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Japan, since July 2006.

MFTBC, one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, is an integral part of the Daimler Trucks Division of Daimler AG. Daimler Trucks is headquartered in Stuttgart, which is the capital city of Baden-Württemberg.

During their visit, Prime Minister Oettinger and Ambassador Daerr met with Daimler Trucks and MFTBC executives including Mr. Andreas Renschler, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and responsible for the Daimler Trucks Division, MFTBC President and CEO Dr. Albert Kirchmann, MFTBC Chairman Mr. Takao Suzuki, and MFTBC Vice President of Operations Masashi Kograme. Also taking part in the program was Mr. Hans Tempel, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Japan Co., Ltd.

The dignitaries toured MFTBC’s Kawasaki Plant, the company’s principal manufacturing location, and experienced demonstrations of the Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck and Aero Star Eco Hybrid bus.

“It was an honor for Mitsubishi Fuso to host Prime Minister Oettinger and Ambassador Daerr,” said MFTBC CEO Dr. Kirchmann. “Baden-Württemberg and MFTBC’s home prefecture of Kanagawa both have deep automotive industry traditions and a continuing strong presence of the car and truck industry. Therefore, we have many common opportunities and challenges. We were especially pleased to highlight Mitsubishi Fuso’s hybrid vehicles, which represent a strong area of Japan-Germany cooperation.”

MFTBC’s Global Hybrid Center, opened in 2008, is the worldwide hub for Daimler Trucks hybrid development. Located within MFTBC’s R&D facilities here, the Center’s role is to synchronize Daimler Trucks hybrid development activities on a global basis. All of Daimler Trucks hybrid activities are aligned under the Center, including regional hybrid personnel at Daimler Trucks divisions MFTBC, Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Daimler Trucks North America LLC.
