Kawasaki, Japan/Jakarta, Indonesia – Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced that over 100,000 units of the latest generation Canter light-duty trucks and buses in total have now been produced in Indonesia. Local assembly of the products began in March 2007, meaning this significant production milestone has been reached in less than three years.

“The rapid achievement of 100,000 unit production of our latest generation products in Indonesian signals both the product’s strong customer acceptance and Mitsubishi Fuso’s overall leadership in this key market,” said Mr. Kai-Uwe Seidenfuss, MFTBC Vice President of International Sales & Service. “We would like to express our sincere thanks to our Indonesia customers for their trust in Mitsubishi Fuso and to our partner companies for their continuing strong cooperation.”

The Canter light-duty truck, called “Colt Diesel” in Indonesia, brings significant advances in safety, reliability and efficiency. It is locally assembled in Indonesia and distributed by P.T. Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB). MFTBC holds 18% of KTB shares.

On the strength of products like the Canter and a comprehensive service network, Mitsubishi Fuso is the number-one commercial vehicle brand in Indonesia. In 2009, Mitsubishi Fuso achieved an approximate 51 percent wholesale share of the truck and bus market in 2009. In the light-duty truck segment, market share reached about 58 percent.

Mitsubishi Fuso first entered the Indonesian market in 1971 and today the country is MFTBC’s largest export market. In 2009, company sales in Indonesia totaled about 31,000 units (wholesale) with sales reaching a cumulative 170,000 units over the past five years (2005-2009).

Mr. Seidenfuss concluded, “Mitsubishi Fuso look forwards to further production milestones in Indonesia, as we continue to serve our customers and extend a long tradition of market leadership and robust participation in Indonesia economy.”
