February 14, 2011

•  Showcasing New Canter Light-Duty Truck and Canter Eco Hybrid
•  Offering Environmental Seminars at Show and Plant Tour for Kawasaki Students

Kawasaki - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced that it will exhibit its new Canter light-duty truck and Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck at the Kawasaki International ECO-Tech Fair 2011. MFTBC will also offer seminars on its environmental technologies at the show and invite elementary and junior high school students in Kawasaki City to visit its Kawasaki plant. The Kawasaki International ECO-Tech Fair runs February 16-17 at the Todoroki Arena in Kawasaki City, Japan.

About the New Canter

Unveiled in November 2010, the new Canter light-duty truck incorporates various “firsts” for Mitsubishi Fuso and for the commercial truck industry. The new Canter is the first full model change of a light-duty truck to meet the world’s most stringent emission regulations JP09 (Japan Post New Long-Term Emission Regulations), achieving extremely clean emissions in all its models. As proof, emissions of nitrous oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) are 30% lower than required. All of the series not only fulfills Japan’s 2015 fuel efficiency standard for heavy-duty vehicles, but over-fulfills it in the 2-7% range, achieving its class-topping low fuel consumption.

Key features include:

•  Light and highly efficient three-liter “4P10” diesel engine with low fuel consumption;
•  BlueTec® emissions reduction system combining an urea selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system and regeneration-control diesel particulate filter (DPF), adopted in a light-duty truck for the first time in Japan; and
•  DUONIC™ dual-clutch transmission, the first ever use of this type of transmission in a commercial truck in the world.

About the Canter Eco Hybrid

The Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck is one of the most advanced Japanese light-duty hybrid trucks currently available for sale in the world today. It features a parallel hybrid system, significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The latest version increases fuel economy to about 11.6 km/liter (2-ton truck) depending on operating conditions. This makes the Canter Eco Hybrid the most fuel efficient hybrid truck in Japan in the 2-ton class.

Debuted in July 2006 for the Japan market, the Canter Eco Hybrid provides easy operation on the job. Sales of the Canter Eco Hybrid have exceeded 1,000 units since launch, including sales outside Japan in London, Ireland, Australia and Hong Kong.
