Mitsubishi Fuso Canter
Named Light-Duty “Irish Truck of the Year 2012”

Kawasaki - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced its Canter Euro 5 EEV light-duty truck was named the “Irish Truck of the Year 2012” for the light-duty truck category.

The award was presented at the Fleet Transport Awards 2012, staged at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin, Ireland, on October 3, 2011. The ceremony was joined by more than 700 industry professionals including range of fleet owners and national vehicle distributors. The Fleet Transport Awards are organized by Fleet Transport, one of biggest transport magazine publications in Ireland, in sponsorship with various companies.

The jury for the award came from a variety of backgrounds including a driving instructor, a technical engineer, and two motoring journalists. The judging process used was the same as the one employed for the International Truck of the Year award-12 criteria with a maximum of 7 points awarded for each. Key criteria included: Fuel Efficiency, Power-to-Weight Ratio, Driver Comfort, Driving Performance and Cabin Layout.

Euro 5-Compliant Canter Light-Duty Truck

Launched in 2009 for the European markets, the Euro 5-compliant Canter light-duty truck incorporates the company’s latest technologies: the 3-liter ‘4P10’ engine for all model variants and BlueTec® emissions reduction system for the most powerful engine variant 129 kW (175 hp). BlueTec® is already in use in many vehicles of the Daimler group model range. Since the spring of 2010, the Fuso Canter also meets the EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) standard which asks for a further reduction in particle emissions by around one third in comparison to the already stringent Euro 5 limits.

History of Canter

The Fuso Canter dates to 1963. More than 3.5 million Canters have rolled off production lines to date. It is the highest volume truck within Daimler Trucks’ global portfolio.

For the European market, the Canter has been produced in Tramagal, Portugal, since 1980. To date, more than 160,000 vehicles have been produced at the plant. Fuso is represented by more than 900 service partners in 33 markets throughout Europe.

New Product on the Way

Fuso is currently launching a new Canter for the European market. A successor to the version which won the “Irish Truck of the Year Light-Duty,” the new Canter brings further innovations like the Duonic™ six-speed dual clutch transmission. The new Canter design boasts superb efficiency, comfort and variety. For Europe, it includes three weight classes, three cab models, three load levels, two transmission alternatives, right- and left-hand drive and a variety of wheelbases.
