Fuso Launches World’s Most Fuel-Efficient Canter Eco Hybrid
Light-Duty Truck in Australia

Kawasaki - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today launched its latest generation Canter Eco Hybrid light-duty truck for the Australian market. This marks the second international introduction of the innovative hybrid truck, following the European launch in September 2012, and brings key advantages for Fuso customers in this highly competitive Australian market. Several other international markets will see the introduction of the Canter Eco Hybrid within this year.
The new Canter Eco Hybrid, the latest innovation of Daimler Trucks Global Hybrid Center located within MFTBC in Kawasaki, Japan, was introduced to dealers, customers, and members of the media on February 7, at the Doltone House, Darling Island Wharf, Pyrmont New South Wales, Australia.
“The new Canter Eco Hybrid is a product that provides a commercial breakeven already within a few years for choosing a hybrid truck,” said Mr. Kai-Uwe Seidenfuss, MFTBC Senior Vice President of Sales & After Sales Fuso. “Combined with our excellent Fuso warranty package, the Canter Eco Hybrid achieves best-in-class Total Cost of Ownership. Building on its success of the predecessor model, we are convinced that this all-new version will become an even stronger part of our sales activities and product portfolio.”
Main Characteristics of the Canter Eco Hybrid for Australia
•  World’s first to incorporate a dual-clutch transmission, DUONIC®, in combination with built-in hybrid motor
•  World champion fuel efficiency: The new Canter Eco Hybrid uses up to 23 percent less fuel than a comparable conventional Canter diesel model
•  Ten-year guarantee to all the main battery components
•  Industry-leading clean emissions: The environment will benefit from a reduction in CO2 emissions of several tons and significantly lower noise levels
•  Compact, high performance laminate-type lithium (Li)-ion battery contributing to overall vehicle performance and lower fuel consumption
DUONIC® Dual-Clutch Transmission with Hybrid Technology
•  World’s first dual-clutch transmission, DUONIC®, with built-in hybrid motor
•  Smooth and seamless gear change without shock or torque interruption
•  Newly introduced high-output, high-revolution motor, generating optimum torque and recuperation forces at every gear/speed
•  High power motor with a maximum output of 40 kW (200 Nm)
•  Technology supporting the overall truck to achieve even more CO2 reduction and fuel efficiency
Canter Eco Hybrid:
The first generation Canter Eco Hybrid, a hybrid diesel-electric light-duty truck, first went on sale in Japan in July 2006, with export to selected international markets beginning in 2009. The second generation Canter Eco Hybrid now launched for the Australian market was introduced in Japan in May 2012 and for the European markets in September 2012. Incorporating world’s first innovation, combination of a dual-clutch transmission, DUONIC®, with a hybrid motor, the Canter Eco Hybrid achieves world champion fuel efficiency, making it the first hybrid truck to pay off economically. Sales of the latest generation Canter Eco Hybrid has already reached over 500 units, with accumulative sales over 1,600 units since the launch of the first generation in 2006.

FUSO 2015 “Leader in Green Innovation”
The all-new Canter Eco Hybrid represents a key milestone in achieving “FUSO 2015,” the company’s five-pillar growth strategy for the future introduced in October 2011. One of the five pillars is “Leader in Green Innovation,” meaning the company focuses on advances in Green Products, Green Factory and Infrastructure and Green Supply Chain to achieve an aggregate CO2 reduction of 7.5% by 2015.
