New Strategic FUSO Truck Rolls Out in Kenya and Sri Lanka

Kawasaki - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today unveiled its new strategic FUSO truck in Kenya. Under its 5-pillar growth strategy FUSO 2015, the company is strengthening its global operations to better position itself in the new growth markets in Asia and Africa. The new robust trucks are built at Daimler Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. (DICV) Plant, Chennai, India, and exported to select Asian and African markets.  The all-new robust FUSO ‘FJ’ medium-heavy-duty trucks were unveiled today to members of the media at the TOTAL MOTORSHOW 2013, East Africa’s largest motor show, running September 6-8, in Nairobi, Kenya.

These modern, robust, and fuel-efficient trucks make FUSO the vanguard in the growth markets in Asia and Africa. Rigorous testing has been assessed under the most strenuous driving conditions at DICV to ensure maximum reliability of the trucks. Following today’s FUSO ‘FJ’ launch in Kenya, the new robust FUSO trucks will be soon available in Sri Lanka in the coming week.

Total of 5 all-new robust FUSO models rolling out to 15 markets: More choice for customers
The all-new FUSO truck range comprises 5 new models, the light-medium-duty (GVW 9-16 tons referred to as ‘FA’ & ‘FI’) and the medium-heavy-duty (GVW 25-49 tons referred to as ‘FJ’, ‘FO’ & ‘FZ’), thus providing more choice to customers. These trucks will be exported and sold through MFTBC’s global network to total 15 markets in Asia and Africa in the first phase with further markets currently evaluated. Starting with the FJ truck, further model expansion for Kenya will be ongoing.
FUSO FJ/FO/FZ medium-heavy-duty truck models

The medium-heavy-duty FJ, FO, and FZ trucks based on Daimler Trucks technical platform – Mercedes-Benz Axor chassis and cabin – incorporates a newly developed 6S20 diesel engine (Displacement: 6,373 cc, Output: 170 kW (810 Nm) / 205 kW (1,100 Nm) and a 6- or 9-speed manual transmission.
FJ: 6x2/6x4, GVW 25 tons, Cargo, Dump, Mixer
FO: 8x2/8x4, GVW 31 tons, Cargo, Dump, Mixer
FZ: 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, GVW 40/49 tons, Tractor
FUSO FA/FI light-medium-duty trucks

The light-medium-duty FA and FI trucks are based on Daimler Trucks technical platform – Fighter medium-duty truck on the chassis and the Canter light-duty truck on the cabin – incorporating a newly developed 4D37 diesel engine (Displacement: 3,907 cc, Output: 100 kW (420 Nm) / 125 kW (520 Nm) and a 6-speed manual transmission.

FI: 4x2, GVW 12/16 tons, Cargo, Dump, Mixer
MFTBC presence in more than 30 African markets – further market expansion in planning
MFTBC is already present in more than 30 African markets. The MFTBC Kawasaki plant in Japan has been supplying completely-built-up FUSO trucks as well as knocked-down kits to be assembled in various assembly sites in Africa to serve the markets there. Now with the addition of the new robust FUSO truck range, further markets are planned to be added to the network with a view to unlocking the full sales potential in Africa.
The East African country of Kenya is a promising export market for Daimler Trucks Asia, in which MFTBC is one of the biggest players.
A partnership with Simba Colt Motors in Nairobi has been in existence since 1968. Simba Colt Motors has a dealer network of a dozen local sales and service outlets, which will also be used for future sales of the FUSO trucks.
