Canter Eco Hybrid Truck Wins “Prize of Director General of Agency for Natural Resources and Energy” in the “2013 Grand Prize for Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Conservation”

Kawasaki, Japan - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, today announced its world’s most fuel-efficient Canter Eco Hybrid truck had won the “Prize of Director General of Agency for Natural Resources and Energy” in the “2013 Grand Prize for Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Conservation” in the Product and Business Model category for its industry-leading fuel-efficiency of 12.8 km/l (7.8 liters/100 km), super clean emissions, and its world’s first innovation – combination a hybrid system with a dual-clutch transmission. The company has also been awarded with the same Prize in the Energy Conservation Examples category for its “overall CO2 reduction in the supply chain,” which makes the company the first in industry to win awards in both categories of Product and Business Model and Energy Conservation Examples. The award ceremony was held today, January 29, 2014, at the ENEX2014 exhibition at the Tokyo Big Sight international convention center.

Canter Eco Hybrid – Product and Business Model Category “Prize of Director General of Agency for Natural Resources and Energy”
Main characteristics:
•  Industry-leading fuel efficiency of 12.8 km/l (7.8 liters/100 km)
•  Super clean emmissions, achieving 30% more than the required NOx and PM level by Japan’s Post New Long-Term Emission Regulations
•  World’s first innovation – combination a hybrid system with a dual-clutch transmission
The innovative truck has already picked up numerous prestigious awards including the Best Energy Efficient Product Award (Ireland), Irish Green Commercial of the Year (Ireland), 2013 RJC Car of the Year Special Award (Japan: won for first time in history for any commercial vehicles), Kanagawa Global Warming Prevention Award (Japan), and the European Transposrt Sustainability Prize 2014 (Europe).

Overall CO2 reduction in the supply chain – Energy Conservation Examples Category “Prize of Director General of Agency for Natural Resources and Energy”
Main characteristics:
•  Company’s efforts under its growth strategy FUSO 2015 targets a 10% reduction of CO2 emissions by the year 2015 compared to the level of 2005.
•  Overall efficiency improvement come from implementation of milk-run logistics including optimization of parts transport and truck load efficiency, utilization of electric forklifts within faciltiies, and eco-drive training for suppliers.
