eCanter Clears Runway for Green Logistics in Berlin

    日本語

365-days-a-year service shows how FUSO transforms Berlin airport waste logistics sustainably.

How does the eCanter perform in everyday use at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport? The zero-emissions electric truck shows what sustainability and reliability can look like at one of Europe’s busiest airports.

The eCanter 7C18e, with its 2.1t payload capacity, has been part of waste and disposal logistics at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport for the last year and a half. Sixty to 70 kms are covered each day on fixed routes, from 6:00am to 10:00pm. The combination of its 24.5 cubic-meter load compartment, practical equipment and range of up to 140 km makes it a great alternative to its conventional diesel counterparts.

“Our eCanter is in use 365 days a year … without incidents.”

Artur Heldt, Head of Waste Management at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, operator of the Berlin airport, emphasizes, “The vehicle travels between 60 and 70 kms collecting waste or exchanging containers on predictable routes.” He adds, “Our eCanter is in use 365 days a year and has been running without incidents since the first day. I believe that electromobility works and makes a major contribution to sustainability. You just have to want to.”

“The steering wheel, windshield, and driver’s seat are heated, and a rearview camera makes maneuvering easier. With its automatic transmission, compact dimensions, and agile handling, it drives like a passenger car,” says Heldt.

So impressed by the performance and reliability of the eCanter, the acquisition of a second eCanter has begun. At the same time, Berlin Brandenburg Airport GmbH underlines its goal of becoming CO₂-neutral by consistently implementing sustainable solutions in logistics as well. Measures such as improved waste separation and recycling also contribute to this.
